Supporters go the extra mile for the 2.6 Challenge
May 11 2020
With many fundraising events in the UK being postponed or cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2.6 Challenge aims to support charities by encouraging people to take on a challenge based on the number 2.6 or 26. The only requirement is that fundraisers keep to the Government guidelines on exercise, social distancing and staying local.
Schoolboy Alfie Esdaile,12, faced 260 cricket balls in full pads at 60mph without stopping! The Vincent family – parents Johnny and Emma and children Thomas, Ollie, Daisy and Flora – undertook a relay-style event of 26 sporting activities including football, cycling, running, golf, netball, cricket, skipping and juggling. Teacher James Morris at the Elstree School has made 26-second videos of students doing PE and Ben Nichols has pledged to do 260 minutes of gardening over a weekend.
Birch Associates Events Ltd has set up 26 days of challenges for team members to undertake. They include skipping 26 times, completing a 1000 piece jigsaw in 26 hours and saying hello in 26 languages in 26 seconds.
Clare Stafford, CEO of the Charlie Waller Trust, said:
Many charities have lost vital income due to the cancellation of fundraising events in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2.6 Challenge is a fantastic initiative which enables anyone to take part in a sponsored activity in their own home or garden. We are very grateful to those individuals who have taken on this challenge to raise invaluable funds for the Trust and want to thank each and every one of them.
